| The Greater Shenandoah Area Historical Society was organized
in October 1998 by a group of local individuals with and
interest in perserving the unique history of Shenandoah;
the heritage of its people, its coal mining history, the
architectural design of downtown buildings, and other
aspects of what makes this community an unique, valuable
and thriving part of Schuylkill County.
Through a series of public meetings, a mission was
developed with plans for promoting Shenandoah through
historic preservation efforts, establishment of a museum,
and an itinerary of public programs including; speakers,
tours, community celebrations and other events.
With the belief that many residents of Shenandoah and
the surrounding villages and patches share the Society's
desire to preserve where we came from, proudly proclaim
who we are today, and with an eye on the furture, work
to develop and promote Shenandoah into a bright future,
a cordial invitation to join the Historical Society
is extended to all area residents and to those whose
roots are in Shenandoah.
